Our Impact

To us, rugby is more than just a sport.

It’s a tool for creating and strengthening relationships, for expanding emotional capacities, and developing an awareness of physical health.

“The Washington DC Youth Rugby team has been in my life for multiple years and has changed it for the better.  The amount of care and passion that they put into there players is unlike any other organization. They have not only helped me improve and advance my rugby skills but gave me even more love for the game. They really do want the best for the kids and will help out the families in more ways than one.

Our impact extends far beyond practices or games.

Girls Play Rugby

We’re serious about providing rugby opportunities for girls. It promotes equality, boosts self-esteem, creates friendships, and offers a healthy after-school program — just like it does for boys.

College Players

We’re proud to grow our network of WDCYR alumni who have played rugby in college. Notable schools include Penn State, Clemson, Frostburg, Cal U-PA, Mary Washington, Mt. Saint Mary’s and Kutztown.

Increased Graduation Rates

Kids who participate in WDCYR graduate at higher rates the average senior class. Rugby teaches discipline and perseverance, traits that are applicable both on and off the field.

Returning Alums

Often our alumni come back as coaches or community mentors, like Jaron Henry at Raymond Rec Center (DPR).

Washington DC Youth Rugby has always promoted inclusion, and our participating children, parents and families represent the diversity in our society regarding race, gender, sexuality, social-economic status, religion, etc.

We’re part of a community.

WDCYR and Washington Rugby Club partner with the New Southern Rock Baptist Church to gather donations for their mission work at the Mitch Snyder Homeless Shelter.

WDCYR and Old Glory participated in the World Embassy Open House in 2019 introducing rugby to guests at the Japanese Embassy prior to the RWC in Tokyo.
