Brian Mihelic, President

Brian Mihelic started playing rugby at West Virginia University. In 1997, he moved to Washington, DC and joined Washington Rugby Club. Brian held several executive positions, including Fundraising Chair, Treasurer, and Recruiting Director. While serving as a Club Officer, Brian saw an opportunity to get more involved with the community. In 2004, with Roger Evans and David Cohen founded WDCYR with the goal of reaching out to underserved youth through the game of rugby.
Marcus Wood, Secretary

Marcus Wood is a native Washingtonian who first picked up rugby at Archbishop Carroll High School. Immediately following his first match, his love affair with rugby began. Marcus attended James Madison University where he played for the club team. In 2000, Marcus returned to Washington, DC and joined Washington Rugby Club. In 2006, Marcus teamed up with WDCYR to help expand the youth program. He has been a key advocate for parents and maintains an active mentorship role with youth across the city. In 2019, Marcus was awarded a Premiership Rugby Scholarship in England.
Roger Evans, Vice President

Roger Evans, originally from Worcester England, began playing rugby in middle school. He came to the US in 1992 and played or coached rugby in several cities. In 1996, he moved to Washington, DC and joined Washington Rugby Club. Roger is a founding coach of WDCYR along with Brian Mihelic and David Cohen. In 2009, Roger and Marcus were finalists for USA Today Weekend Magazine’s Most Caring Coach Award. Professionally, Roger works at the Embassy of Australia, an enthusiastic supporter of the WDCYR for the past decade.
Bruce Evans, Head Coach, Summer Touch

Bruce Evans started playing rugby in 2001 at Hyde Leadership Public Charter School in Washington, DC. In 2003, Bruce was selected to the U-19 national team and invited to play in the World Cup qualifier in Trinidad. Bruce tried out for national team in 2004 and led Hyde to the high school national championships where they were ranked 15th in the nation. Bruce went on to play rugby at Marshall University where he was named MVP, Ohio All-Star, and set the record for tries. After college, Bruce returned to play with Washington Rugby Club. After suffering an injury in 2016, Bruce began coaching for WDCYR where three of his four children are players.
Koki Mori, Treasurer

Koki Mori is originally from Tokyo, Japan and was raised in a rugby family. He moved to the US at a young age, and played rugby for 4 years at Greenwich High School. He continued playing rugby at American University and after graduating in 2007, he joined Washington Rugby Club. That is when he got introduced to the administrative side of rugby, and organized the Cherry Blossom Rugby Tournament for over 10 years. In 2016, Koki became Treasurer for WDCYR and is often found coaching kids on the field with his 2 young sons.
Kate Hammerberg
A key member of our team. Kate is a former rugby player at the University of South Carolina and Limerick.
Lauren Roche
A key member of our team. Lauren is from Australia and is a Wallabies and Brumbies supporter through and through.
